Tokyo: With just six days left, coronavirus has made its entry at the Tokyo Olympics as the organisers reported the first case of the deadly virus on Saturday. “There was one person in the Village. That was the very first case in the Village that was reported during the screening test,” Tokyo Olympics organising commitee spokesperson Masa Takaya, told a press conference.

Takaya refused to disclose the identity of the person and informed that the infected individual has been removed from the Village where thousands of athletes and officials will reside during the Games. However, according to reports, the infected person is an official.

“Right now this person is confined to a hotel,” Takaya said. “We are doing everything to prevent any Covid outbreaks. If we end up with an outbreak we will make sure we have a plan in place to respond,” Tokyo Olympics chief organsier Seiko Hashimoto said.

The Tokyo Olympics which was scheduled to start last year was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic globally. The organisers have put in place stringent measures to avoid coronavirus infections in the Village.
