New Delhi: After Rishabh Pant won India the Border Gavaskar Trophy with his stupendous batting skills in the fourth and final historical Test series win in Brisbane, comparisons with Mahendra Singh Dhoni are flattering. But India wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant on Thursday (January 21) said it’s unfair to compare a legend with a young cricketer and he wants to carve his own identity in the game of cricket.
Next MS Dhoni, is the tag that Rishabh Pant has been living with since breaking into the senior Indian team. On his comparison with the former captain he said, “It feels amazing when you compare someone like MS Dhoni. It feels good for me to be compared with him. But I don’t want me to be compared with anyone. I want to make a name for myself in Indian cricket. That’s the only thing I am focused on. Because it’s not too good to compare a legend with a youngster.”
Pant’s match-winning efforts have earned him rich praises from all over. Talking about the historic win which also sealed the series by 2-1, he said, “I think the whole team is very happy with the way we played the series in Australia.”
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant moved to a career-best spot of 13 on ICC Test Batting Rankings after topping India’s batting charts in the 4-Test series with 274 runs in 3 matches. The 23-year-old is now the highest-ranked wicketkeeper-batsman on ICC Test rankings but the youngster said he is not focused on the numbers.
“I feel good but I didn’t know about the ranking. My only job is to win matches for India,” Pant said.
