Brazil announces equal pay for men’s and women’s footballers

Sao Paulo: Brazil Football Federation (CBF) has announced that they will have equal pay for both men and women footballers representing the national team. “The CBF has equalled the prize money and allowances between men’s and women’s football, which means the women players will earn the same as the men,” CBF president Rogerio Caboclo said.

This decision means Marta, Formiga, Leticia Santos will be paid the same amount of money Neymar, Coutinho, Allison Becker earn from the national team. Only countries like Norway, Australia, New Zealand are among the few who are planning to pay equal amounts to their men’s and women’s football sides.

“It will be proportionally the same as what Fifa proposes for women, that is to say, there will be no more gender difference in remuneration between men and women,” Caboclo said. Current Women’s World Champions USA had a backlash with their football federation last season on this equal pay rights.

The women’s football has always been kept away in the past. Due to the patriarchy, they were always considered to be the second-best behind men. But this approach from the CBF will bring a revelation and will appear as a statement against the patriarchy. No doubt it’s a great decision and hopes that every country should follow this example.
