Kolkata : English Test skipper has hinted his potential return to white ball format, after the start of Brendon McCullum coaching era as all time coach, taking up the limited overs format recently.
Although, Stokes revealed that he had no formal discussions with the officials yet. Despite his focus on regaining fitness for the upcoming Test series in Pakistan, Stokes revealed that should McCullum approach him, he would likely say yes.
“I’ve played a lot of white-ball cricket for England and I’m very happy and content with what I’ve achieved in that form of the game …,” Stokes told Sky Sports on Tuesday.
“If I get the call to come and play, then obviously it’s definitely going to be a yes. But I’m not going to be too disappointed if I don’t – it means that I can just sit back and watch everyone else go out and smack it”, Stokes added.
Stokes had been an iconic and clutch player in white Ball Cricket, and remembered for his heroic knocks in ICC ODI World Cup 2019 final win against New Zealand and ICC T20 World Cup 2022 final win against Pakistan.
He came back from his retirement once during ICC ODI World Cup 2023 but hasn’t featured in any white Ball matches after his team’s group stage exit from the event.
Keeping in mind the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and ICC ODI World Cup 2027 , amongst the near future White Ball events coming up, inclusion of Stokes in the white Ball format under Brendon McCullum will help England regain their lost confidence in the format.
