Kolkata : BCCI secretary Jay Shah has rejected ICC’s offer to host ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 starting from October 3-20.

ICC Women’s T20 WC was supposed to be hosted by Bangladesh. However, their ongoing political, religious violence and turmoil almost ruled out the possibility.

ICC chalked out alternative venues like India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, UAE.

ICC approached BCCI for hosting the tournament but Jay Shah has rejected the offer. Since, October start carries touches of retreating monsoon and on top of that India is set to host Women’s ODI World Cup next year. A consecutive hosting of World Cup might be problematic for India, thus BCCI rejected the offer.

Jay Shah said in an interview, “They [ICC] have asked us if we would conduct the World Cup. I have categorically said no”.

Shah continued, “We’re in the monsoon and on top of that we will host the Women’s ODI World Cup next year. I don’t want to give any kind of signals that I want to hold consecutive World Cups”.

With India ruling themselves out, the alternative venues remain UAE, Sri Lanka, Pakistan.
