Barcelona: The soccer world came at a standstill as FC Barcelona via their official accounts on social media announced on Thursday that talisman Lionel Messi will not be renewing his contract at Barcelona. Its official that the magician is leaving Barcelona after 21 long years. Lionel Messi tried to leave the club last season only, but the management somehow managed him to stay for another season. Lionel Messi joined Barcelona’s youth team in 2000, he is club’s all time highest goal scorer with 672 goals in 778 appearances in all competitions.

Lionel Messi’s contract with Barcelona had expired back in June and he has been a free agent ever since. A discontent Lionel Messi under the previous management had expressed his desire to leave the club but appointment of Joan Laporta brought hopes for the fans to see the arguably greatest player back in the Blaugrana colours.
Although the initial personal agreements were done between the player and the club as Lionel Messi wanted to stay and possibly retire at Barcelona itself, the financial condition of the club couldn’t support it even though the player hard reportedly agreed to a 50% reduction of wages.
A lot of measures were taken, not just by the club but by La Liga as well but no measure were enough as Barcelona announce the departure of Lionel Messi while thanking him for the role he had played in keeping Barcelona at the top spots.
