Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLCB) has appointed former legendary all rounder Sanath Jayasuriya as interim head coach, following their miserable exit from ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Jayasuriya will take charge after the ongoing Lankan Premier & is to remain in this position till September, for the home series against India & England tour in August.
Former Sri Lankan head coach Chris Silverwood also stepped down from the position after their exit from T20 Wc siting “personal reasons” for vacating the position.
This will be the right time for someone like Jayasuriya , who contributed so much for Sri Lankan Cricket including the 1996 World win, to take charge and shape the sinking ship of Sri Lanka in present day.
“Sanath with his wealth of international cricketing experience is well positioned to guide the national team, until we find a permanent solution,” said Ashley De Silva, CEO, Sri Lanka Cricket.
