Rio de Janeiro: Brazil failed to pocket full points for the first time after 11 games as they split points with Ecuador in their Copa America 2021 Group B encounter allowing the latter to sail into the quarterfinals on Monday. On the other hand, Peru eliminated Venezuela 1-0 to go into the next round as group runners-up.

Brazil finish as group toppers with 10 points from four games followed by Peru who accumulated seven. Colombia and Ecuador round up the top four spots with four and three respectively. Venezuela bow of the tournament owing to their last-place finish.

Brazil took the lead through an accomplished header from Eder Militao on 37 minutes. But they didn’t have the last laugh as Angel Mena equalised for Ecuador on 53 minutes. Brazil’s performance dipped in the second half leaving the game on the same scoreline.

Elsewhere, Peru’s Andre Carrillo scored the only goal in the 48th minute ending all hopes for Venezuela. Venezuela had been a tad unlucky and have failed to register any win after their camp was hit with COVID-19 and eight of the prime players absent.
