SL vs IND, 2ND ODI : Jeffrey Vandersay stars as Sri Lanka take 1-0 lead in ODI Series against India

Colombo : Sri Lanka defeated India by 32 runs in 2nd ODI of the 3 match series at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Jeffrey Vandersay starred with a spell of 6/33 as Sri Lanka takr 1-0 lead.

Batting 1st, Sri Lanka despite losing Pathum Nissanka (0) off the 1st Ball of the innings in Mohammad Siraj’s over, solidified their position with a 74 runs partnership between Avishka Fernando (40) & Kusal Mendis (30).

Sri Lankan middle order saw a fumble as Washington Sundar (3/30) & Kuldeep Yadav (2/33) kept them in check & taking wickets at regular intervals.

However, joint efforts from Dunith Wellalage (39) & Kamindu Mendis (40) brought Sri Lanka to a respectable total – 240/9 (50).

Chasing 241 runs, India went off to a flying start with Rohit Sharma (64), Shubman Gill (35) building 97 runs partnership.

However, things began to change with Vandersay’s introduction , as with his arrival, he picked up 6-fer & in no time rattled the star studded Indian middle order.

Despite Axar Patel (44) lone efforts, skipper Charith Asalanka delivered finishing blow with 3/20 , as India were bundled out for 208 (42.2) from 97/1.

Vandersay was adjourned the Man of The Match for his heroic spell.

India will play 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka on August 7, 2024 , on the same venue.
