People don’t understand injuries, that is why they talk rubbish: Sourav Ganguly

New Delhi: BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is confident that Wriddhiman Saha will be fit for India’s four-Test series in Australia commencing on December 17. Saha injured both hamstrings during the Indian Premier League and missed the playoffs in the United Arab Emirates, and is currently being treated.

The BCCI said it would take a late call on Saha’s availability for the tour last week. Ganguly told The Week magazine, “I think people don’t know how the BCCI works. The BCCI trainers, physio and Wriddhi himself know that he has two hamstring issues. People don’t understand injuries, that is why they talk rubbish.”

“The BCCI trainers, physio and Wriddhi himself know that he has two hamstring issues. Wriddhi is travelling to Australia because he will be fit for Tests. He is not part of the shorter formats.” Saha is technically considered the best wicketkeeper in India. Besides Saha, Rishabh Pant is the other wicketkeeper in India’s Test squad.

Rohit Sharma suffered from a hamstring injury in IPL, for which he was considered as unfit for the tour initially, but the opener continued to play leading the Mumbai Indians to their fifth IPL title. He was later brought back to the Test squad.

“Rohit is still 70 per cent (fit),” Ganguly said. “That is why he is still not picked for the ODIs and T20s Down Under. He has been added to the Test squad.” India captain Virat Kohli will miss the last three Tests and return home to attend the birth of his first child.
