Goa: SC East Bengal would be cursing themselves for missing out on the opportunity to beat 10-man FC Goa ending at 1-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda. Igor Angulo scored the goal for Goa while for East Bengal it was Danny Fox.
For East Bengal, it was to get out from the misery of the 10th spot while for the opposition, it was to grab the opportunity and shorten the gap with ATK Mohun Bagan.
The match started with drama as East Bengal was awarded a penalty on 19 seconds and Anthony Pilkington failed to convert from the spot. Goa started to play free and their talisman Angulo scored the opener on 39 minutes – his 10th in the competition.
The second half started with some more drama as East Bengal started to push forward with Bright Enobakhare, Pilkington and Jaques Maghoma. In the 65th minute, East Bengal skipper Fox scored the equalizer. This was the Englishman’s first goal since 2011.
Goa captain Edu Bedia was given the marching orders in the very next minute and had to play the next 30 minutes with 10-men. East Bengal came close to scoring on some occasions but Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem stood tall to avert any danger.
