BCCI to announce two new IPL teams on October 25

New Delhi: Taking a major decision on domestic cricket, the BCCI has decided that they will not be conducting the Ranji Trophy for the first time in 87 years as the parent body opted for the Vijay Hazare Trophy as per the wishes of the majority of the state units.

Along with the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy, the BCCI will also organize the Women’s Senior one-day trophy and the U-19 Vinod Mankad trophy. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has written in his letter to the state associations that the decision has been taken due to the feedback received from the bodies keeping the post-Covid-19 situation in mind.

“I am extremely happy to inform you that we are going to conduct the Senior Women’s One Day tournament simultaneously with the Vijay Hazare Trophy and follow it up with Vinod Mankad Trophy Under-19. This has been decided after having received your feedback on the domestic season 2020-21,” Shah wrote a letter to state units.

Shah in his letter spoke about how difficult it was to plan out the domestic calendar for the season in the post COVID world. “As you are aware, we have lost a lot of time and consequently, it has been difficult to plan the cricket calendar on account of the precautions that are necessary for the safe conduct of the games,” the letter further read.
