Indore : Bengal defeated Madhya Pradesh by 11 runs at Holkar Stadium, Indore, to register their 1st win in Ranji Trophy 2024-25. This match was special as it marked the comeback of Indian pacer Mohammed Shami.
In 1st innings, Bengal fumbled in front of MP pacers Kulwant Khejroliya and Aryan Pandey’s 4-fers. However, Shahbaz Ahmed (92) & Anustup Majumdar (44) powered Bengal to 228 runs.
The 1st innings of Madhya Pradesh was special due to Shami’s dream comeback after 1 year to competitive Cricket and he grabbed 4-fer , playing key role to dismiss MP to 167 runs.
In 2nd innings, Bengal middle order with likes of Sudip Gharami (40), Sudip Chatterjee (40), Writtick Chatterjee (52), Wriddhiman Saha (44) scored vital runs for Bengal. Shami (37) in the lower order increased Bengal’s lead, thereby, setting 338 runs target for MP.
MP looked to chase down the total with flawless innings of Subhrangshu Senapati (50), Himanshu Mantri (44), Venkatesh Iyer (53) & Shubham Sharma (61).
However, Shahbaz Ahmed’s spin threat and spell of 4/48, Mohammed Shami’s 3/102 bundled MP for 326 runs, thereby handing Bengal 11 runs close win.
Shahbaz was adjourned the man of the match for his allround heroics.
