Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed former Indian spinner Neetu David as the head of the new All-India Women’s Selection Committee on Saturday (September 26).

“On account of seniority, Neetu David, the former left-arm spinner, will head the five-member committee. She holds the world record for best bowling figures in an innings in a Test for her 8/53 against England Women in the Jamshedpur Test held in 1995. She is also the second-highest wicket-taker for India in WODIs with 141 scalps and was also the first from India to take 100 WODI wickets,” BCCI on their website.

Earlier in January 2020, the BCCI had published a press release on their official website for invitations of appeals for the senior women national selectors with two openings, along with applications for the senior men and junior men category with two positions recruitment for each.

As mentioned by the BCCI, the preconditions for the women’s selection committee were that the applicant ‘should have represented the Indian women’s cricket team’ and ‘should have retired from the game at least five years ago’.

The women’s selection committee will contain five members, all of whose designations were announced on September 26. The other members include left-handed batter Arati Vaidya (West), right-arm medium pacer Renu Margrate (North), wicket-keeper Venkatacher Kalpana (South), Bengal all-rounder Mithu Mukherjee (East).
