Mumbai: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered their second consecutive win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 by defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad. K L Rahul and team beat Hyderabad by 12 runs at the DY Patil Stadium. Two spontaneous fifties from skipper KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda pilled Lucknow Super Giants to a competitive total of 169-7. Avesh Khan’s 4-wicket haul boostedthe Lucknow Super Giants’ bowling attack to restrict SRH to 157/9.

Sunrisers Hyderabad made a rewarding start of the innings with the ball. They claimed three wickets in the powerplay. Washington Sundar spun to claim two wickets as Romario Shepherd gathered one. Evin Lewis trapped in front, Quinton de Kock and Manish Pandey were caught inside the circle. Skipper KL Rahul was joined by Deepak Hooda, as Lucknow Super Giants were 32-3 at the end of 6 overs. The duo developed a crucial partnership and got Lucknow Super Giants out of trouble. Hammering 20 runs off the Umran Malik over they were 68-3 at the end of 10 overs.

Nevertheless SRH managed to bring an end to the dangerous partnership as Hooda and Rahul reached their respective half-centuries. Hooda holed out in the deep, off Shepherd’s bowling. While LSG skipper added a four and a six as new batter, Ayush Badoni creamed towards boundary. Natarajan’s impressive death bowling brought an end to the Lucknow Super Giants skipper’s knock. Ayush Badoni played a valuable finishing knock by scoring three fours to end up with 17 runs coming as Lucknow Super Giants posted 169-7 within time.

Chasing 170, SRH lost skipper Kane Williamson at short fine leg off Avesh Khan’s bowling in the fourth over. Avesh took his second wicket duting the powerplay after Manish Pandey grabbed a skier to dismiss Abhishek Sharma. SRH were 40-2 at the end of the powerplay. Rahul Tripathi,  joined by Aiden Markram, rolled three boundaries and started his innings confidently. Tripathi rebuilt and stormed a 33 off 18 deliveries as SRH were 82/2 at the halfway stage.

Aiden Markram, who was caught at extra-cover for 12 as Krunal Pandya claimed his first wicket in  IPL 2022. Pandya added one more wicket to his tally after Tripathi was caught in the deep for 44. Nicholas Pooran kept the flame of win blowing for SRH with three fours and a six. Washington Sundar supported him at the other end. With 33 runs required off 18 deiveries, Pooran smashed a maximum. Suddely, Avesh Khan struck twice in consecutive deliveries to dismiss Pooran and Abdul Samad. Jason Holder bowled the final over with perfection and claimed three wickets as SRH fell 13 runs short of the target.
