Indian rowers Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh create history at Tokyo Olympics

Tokyo: India’s Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh created history on Sunday as they became the first from the country to qualify for an Olympics rowing event semifinals. The Indian duo finished third in the men’s lightweight double sculls repechage at the Tokyo Olympics clocking 6:51.36s at the Sea Forest Waterway.

The top position was taken by Poland’s Jerzy Kowalski and Artur Mikolajczewski who finished with a timing of 6:43.44s, followed by Spain’s Caetano Horta Pombo and Manel Balastegui, who clocked 6:45.71 in the repechage 2. The semifinals will be on July 27.

When Arjun and Arvind compete at the Sea Forest Waterway on Thursday, they will be a part of history. Previously, Devender Kumar Khandwal and Manjeet Singh finished 18th position at the 2004 Olympics, and Sandeep Kumar and Manjeet Singh managed a 19th position finish at the 2012 London Olympics.
