Being put to bowl first, India removed Will Young (15) & tournament’s leading run scorer Rachin Ravindra (37) after 57 runs opening stand. Kane Williamson (11) followed them sooner. Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) played big role in removing Rachin and Williamson.
Kiwis innings was saved from collapse by handy knocks of Daryl Mitchell (63), Glenn Phillips (34) & Michael Bracewell (53*) who stayed till the end. New Zealand could manage 251-7 (50), with Kuldeep and Varun Chakaravarthy picking 2-fers each.
Chasing 252 runs India went off to a flying start with skipper Rohit Sharma (76) & Shubman Gill (31) notching up 105 runs opening stand.
Rohit’s innings of 76 (83) included 3 sixes and 7 boundaries. However, both got dismissed in quick succession along with Virat Kohli for 126 runs.
Shreyas Iyer (46) & Axar Patel (29) added another 61 runs stand.
KL Rahul (34*), after the pair’s dismissals stayed till the end, and eventually Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning runs in last Ball of 49th over to bring back the glory to India for 3rd time.
Rohit was adjourned man of the match & Rachin man of the tournament.
