ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 shifted from Bangladesh to UAE

Kolkata : The ICC Women’s T20 Wc 2024 has been officially moved to UAE from Bangladesh, ICC mentioned in an official statement.

The ICC Women’s T20 WC campaign is set to start from September 27 , with warm up matches. The prime hosts were Bangladesh.

However, on going political tensions and violence had made it impossible to host it in the country due to security concerns and objections of most participating nation over the same. Therefore, ICC took this decision. Sharjah and Dubai are the 2 venues which will be used throughout the tournament.

“It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event,” ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement.

“I would like to thank the team at the BCB for exploring all avenues to try and enable the event to be hosted in Bangladesh, but travel advisories from the governments of a number of the participating teams meant that wasn’t feasible. However, they will retain hosting rights. We look forward to taking an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the near future”, the statement added.

ICC also appreciated Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka who offered to host the tournament. ICC also approached India to host the tournament, but BCCI declined as they’ll also host ICC Women’s ODI WC 2025. Therefore, ICC moved the tournament to UAE due to their infrastructure and experience in hosting events, thus, acknowledged them.

“I’d also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in to host on behalf of the BCB and Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their generous offers of support, and we look forward to seeing ICC global events in both of those countries in 2026″, concluded the statement.

UAE have been savior of ICC & BCCI during any disputes over the years, as they have hosted IPL 2020, IPL 2021 (later half), ICC T20 World Cup 2021, amid Covid 19 issues in India.

With world class infrastructure, no rain threats, experience to host events , UAE emerged as one of the global hubs in hosting events. They’re now set to host their 2nd ICC World Cup event.
