Mumbai: Harbhajan Singh heaped high praise on Suryakumar Yadav. Comparing Suryakumar with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the veteran off-spinner reckoned he is the most ‘complete’ batsman after the dynamic batting duo.
Suryakumar made his India debut during the England series in March and has since scored 124 runs in three ODIs, and 139 runs from four T20Is only. In international cricket, Yadav is only a few matches old, but dealing with different conditions and pitches in the IPL over the years, has helped him develop game awareness and understanding the tactics very well.
“I have followed Suryakumar Yadav for years now. When I was captaining the Mumbai Indians, he was a young boy and in today’s time, after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, he is the most complete player in terms of batting,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying on Sports Tak.
After showcasing his mettle in the ODIs, the 30-year-old is currently playing in T20Is in Colombo against Sri Lanka. His hard work and consistency earned him a maiden Test call-up as he will be travelling to England to join the Kohli-led Indian Test team as a replacement for the five-match Test series, along with Prithvi Shaw.
Harbhajan also stated that there is no better player of spin in the country than Suryakumar and that is something that makes him a must in all formats of India squads. “Over the years, I have seen him grow as a player. He is a phenomenal batsman, who can play fast bowling. He has plenty of time and in terms of playing spin, you will not find a better batsman in India in today’s time. So, in my opinion, Suryakumar is a must whether it’s World Cup squad, one-day squad, T20I or Test squad,” he added.
