Tokyo: Legendary US gymnast Simone Biles has withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympics midway citing mental health issues, the USA Gymnastics confirmed on Wednesday. Biles, who pulled out from the Artistic Gymnastics team final on Tuesday, will no longer take part in the individual all-around gymnastics competition as well.

“After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games, in order to focus on her mental health,” USA Gymnastics said in a statement.

The US federation said a decision on whether Biles would compete in individual event finals would be taken following daily evaluation. During the team final, Biles spoke with her teammates at the side of the runway after the vault, looking upset and walked down off the floor with her bag.

However, the 24-year-old, who has won multiple Olympic medals, reappeared in her warm-up suit, watched her teammates snag silver, and even clowned around dancing with fellow teammate Jordan Chiles.
