Kolkata : Mumbai Indians, most successful franchise in Cricketing history has added SA20 2025 title, defeating 2 times champion Sunrisers Eastern Cape by 76 Runs, completing their illustrious cabinet with 11th Trophy.
Starting their campaign from 2008 IPL, a franchise owned by Mukesh Ambani, Mumbai Indians, despite struggling to win title in initial years, won their first title in Champions League 2011, and it was just the beginning of dominance era.
After Rohit Sharma was appointed as MI captain in mid stage of IPL 2013, there was no looking back as they conquered IPL – 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, Champions League 2013.
MI spread their wings to to other leagues investing in sister franchises.
In 2022, MI founded the MI Emirates (based in Abu Dhabi) and the MI Cape Town (based in Cape Town) teams, which compete in the ILT20 and SA20 leagues respectively. In 2023, the MI franchise made their entry into the newly launched Women’s Premier League (WPL) and the Major League Cricket (MLC).
While they won the inaugural editions of the WPL as Mumbai Indians, and MLC as MI New York, the MI franchise had to wait a little longer for titles in the ILT20 and the SA20 leagues. MI landed the ILT20 trophy in 2024, and completed their trophy cabinet with the SA20 title in 2025.
The owners of MI have now also ventured in the England and Wales Cricket Board’s The Hundred competition by buying 49 percent stake in the Oval Invincibles, two-time champions already. MI will hope to add The Hundred also to their cabinet soon.
