Former Australian ricketer Michael Slater charged over alleged domestic violence

Sydney: Former Australian cricket great and IPL commentator Michael Slater has been arrested in Sydney on Wednesday over domestic violence allegations.

The 51-year-old was arrested at his home in Manly, north of Sydney on Wednesday morning and taken to Manly police station. New South Wales (NSW) police said they had started an investigation on Tuesday into reports of a domestic violence incident last week. However, he was granted police bail and will appear in Sydney’s Waverley Local Court on November 11.

“Officers attached to the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command commenced an investigation on Tuesday after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident alleged to have occurred on Tuesday 12 October 2021. Following inquiries, detectives attended a home at Manly about 9:20 am and spoke with a 51-year-old man. He has since been arrested,” New South Wales Police said in a statement on Wednesday.

“He was subsequently arrested and taken to Manly police station, where he was charged with use [of a] carriage service to menace/harass/offend and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm.” The statement added.

Slater, played 74 Tests and 42 One Day Internationals for Australia between 1993 and 2001 before moving into commentary. Slater was reportedly sacked by channel Seven Network’s cricket commentary last month after three years with the Australian broadcaster.
