EPL: Chelsea rout Southampton; Manchester United fall against Everton

Southampton: Chelsea registered a massive 6-0 victory against Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday ( April 9), in an English Premier League match. Manchester United were handed a shocking 1-0 defeat by a struggling Everton side at Goodison Park.

Chelsea roared back into form after two very disappointing losses. In Premier League, they were humbled by Brentford by 4-1. Whereas in a crucial Champions League home match against Real Madrid they were defeated 3-1.

Chelsea went forward in 8 minutes through a strike by Marcos Alonso. A relentless Chelsea scored six past Southampton with two goals each from Mason Mount and Timo Werner and one from Kai Havertz. With this victory, Thomas Tuchel’s side is pushing for a top 4 finish. Southampton next plays Arsenal who are going through a rough patch.

Arsenal’s dream to finish in the top 4 took a huge blow as Brighton defeated them 2-1 at Emirates Stadium. Leandro Trossard and Enock Mwepu scored a goal in each for Brighton as Martin Odegaard pulled one back for Arsenal.

Anthony Gordon scored the decisive goal as Frank Lampard’s side secured a crucial victory to avoid relegation. Everton moved four points clear of the relegation zone with this victory against Manchester United, whose hopes to finish top 4 were dashed even further.

On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur solidified their Top 4 with a brilliant display of a 4-0 victory against Aston Villa. Son Heung-Min scored a hat trick also Dejan Kulusevski found himself on the scoresheet for Antonio Conte’s men.
