Cristiano Ronaldo makes early Premier League homecoming

Manchester: Cristiano Ronaldo is set to return to England ahead of schedule to prepare for his Premier League homecoming against New Castle United on September 11 for the second time in Manchester United colours.

It has been hardly a week since Ronaldo took the world by storm after making a shocking move to Old Trafford from Juventus. He didn’t stop there as the 36-year-old became the all-time highest international top scorer when he netted twice in the dying minutes against the Republic of Ireland in the World Cup qualifiers.

Not only Ronaldo helped Portugal win the game, he surpassed Iranian striker Ali Daei’s tally of 109 international goals. Ronaldo now has 111 international goals. However, he received a yellow card following his shirtless celebration and will be barred from taking the field against Azerbaijan next Tuesday in Baku.

With no use against Azerbaijan, Portugal head coach Fernando Santos also exempted the skipper from playing a friendly against Qatar too, six days ahead of his routined return to Old Trafford. The early arrival of the star would give him a week before starting, which would give a major boost to the plans of Ole Gunner Solskjaer.
