IPL 2022: David Warner, Rovman Powell power Delhi Capitals to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad

Mumbai: Delhi Capitals (DC) registered their 5th victory in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.  A 21-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. David Warner’s sensational 92* and Rovman Powell’s clinical finish with the bat powered Delhi to a commanding total of 207-3.

Delhi Capitals made four changes with Mandeep Singh, Ripal Patel, Khaleel Ahmed and Anrich Nortje introduced in the playing eleven. Sunrisers Hyderabad made early approaches as Mandeep Singh was caught behind. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a majestic wicket-maiden over to start-off the innings.

David Warner had a comfortable and confident start with three fours and a six. Sean Abott took a sharp catch off his own bowling to dismiss Mitchell Marsh. Delhi Capitals were 50/2 at the end of the powerplay.

Skipper Rishabh Pant joined Warner to hammer three consecutive sixes against Shreyas Gopal. The spinner bounced back to knock the stumps of the Delhi Capitals skipper. DC were 91-3 at the halfway mark.

Warner crossed his half-century with a four and was joined by Rovman Powell. Warner clubbed another four and a six while Rovman Powell was dropped twice. The fifty partnership was up when Delhi Capitals were 147-3, with four overs to go.

18 runs came off the 17th over and Warner was into the nineties after scoring three fabulous fours in the penultimate over. Powell provided the finishing touch with 3 fours and a mammoth six as Delhi Capitals posted 207-3 in the first innings.

Sunrisers Hyderabad lost an early wicket of Abhishek Sharma’s off Khaleel Ahmed’s bowling. Anrich Nortje claimed the vital wicket of Kane Williamson. Rahul Tripathi smashed two fours and a six and SRH were 35/2 after 6 overs.

Rahul Tripathi got caught off to Mitchell Marsh by Shardul Thakur at deep square-leg. Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markman hammered a couple of sixes to put Sinrisers Hyderabad at 63-3 in halfway stage. Markram hit 3 fours and runs kept flowing from Markram’s bat. The right-handed batter hit two sixes against Kuldeep Yadav as the fifty partnership was up.

Khaleel Ahmed put an end to the partnership after Markram got caught at long-off. Pooran kept the momentum clubbing two sixes against Nortje. Shardul Thakur claimed Shashank Singh’s wicket when the equation narrowed down to 62 off 24.

Pooran completed his fifty just off to 29 deliveries. Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their 6th wicket putting down the required 55 off to 18 balls. Thakur claimed Pooran as Sunrisers Hyderabad required 43 off 12. The final two overs produced 21 runs as they fell 22 runs short of the target.
