Rio de Janeiro: Peru will aim for the redemption of their Copa final loss two years ago when they lock horns with defending champions Brazil in the Copa America 2021 semifinals on Tuesday. Earlier, in a group encounter in the ongoing tournament, Brazil defeated Peru 4-0.
Peru are coming into the game after edging past Paraguay 4-3 on penalties. Following a 3-3 finish after the regulation time, Alberto Espinola’s final penalty miss saw Peru through the last four. The 1975 edition champions would look forward to turn the tables this time while Brazil would strive to keep their dominance over the continent.
The Men in Yellow are coming into this match high on confidence winning four out of their five matches so far, the latest being their 1-0 win over two-time winners Chile in the quarters to book their place in semis. Despite of numerous miss chances, Lucas Paqueta’s effort in the second half against Chile, was enough to secure them a place forward.
Tite’s men will be missing the services of forward Gabriel Jesus, who received a straight red card against Chile and will be replaced by Lucas Paqueta supported by Fred and Casemiro in the middle. Neymar would partner up with Roberto Firmino and Richarlison up front. Captain Thiago Silva, along with Marquinhos, Danilo and Renan Lodi return to support Ederson under the bars.
For Peru, Andre Carrillo would miss out with Santiago Ormeno is expected to replace him. Gianluca Lapadula who has found the net twice in the tournament will be present inevitably in the frontline. Experienced Christian Cueva and Renato Tapia are most likely to line up in the midfield with Sergio Peña.
Aldo Corzo, Christian Ramos , Anderson Santamaria and Miguel Trauco will align in front of the custodian and captain Pedro Gallese in an endeavour of stopping the arguably best attack in the world.
