Kolkata: Colony Institute were crowned the first division champions of the first-ever Amateur Soccer League that was held for a month at Clive House Nichu Maath, Nagerbazar. Sixteen teams were divided into two divisions.
Colony Institute remained unbeaten in the seven matches they played winning five and two ending with no result bagging 17 points. Soccer City FC came second in the standings. AFSC suffered relegation bagging just a point from the seven matches they played. They will join the second division in the next season.
In the second division, Bally Young Stars became the champions winning five of the seven matches they played. They were closely followed by Avengers City FC, who were second in with 14 points from seven matches. Both Bally and Avengers were directly promoted to the first division.
The other team to get promotion to the first division was FIIOB, who defeated FC Bengal in the playoffs. The ASL was played out with so much entertainment, fun and ofcourse achieving the main motive of promoting young and emerging talents from the amateur circuit. SC East Bengal defender Raju Gaikwad was present on the final day to cheer the players.
The players got their deserved recognition, which will only improve them in the upcoming days. The upcoming season will be back soon as we wait eagerly for the Super Cup to be played this year.
