Praggnanandhaa defeated World No 2 & 3 Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana to enter the final, becoming the 2nd Indian after GM Vishwanathan Anand to do so.
Praggnanandhaa and Carlsen’s fierce fight continued to the extent that both the 2 rounds of the classical games ended in a draw, however, Carlsen emerged dominant in one of the 2 tie breakers and hence clinched his 1st FIDE World Chess Championship Title.
A Silver Medal in the Final of the tournament also ensures his place in the FIDE Candidate Tournament.
