Australia started the day with 228-9. They soon lost their last wicket on 234, setting 340 runs target for India. Jasprit Bumrah (5/57) grabbed 5-fer.
India chasing 340 lost 3 wickets for 33 runs. They took defensive approach to go for draw.
Rishabh Pant (30) & Yashasvi Jaiswal (84) notched up fighting 88 runs partnership, but lost 3 quick wickets with likes of Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Reddy.
Washington Sundar (5*) & Jaiswal tried to fight till the end taking defensive approach but as soon as Jaiswal got out to Pat Cummins on a controversial dismissal, the tail got exposed.
In next 9 overs, India lost remaining 3 wickets of Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah and Md Siraj, with just 13 overs to spare for a tie.
Pat Cummins and Scott Boland bagged 3-fers as Australia recorded historic victory at Melbourne.
