Asia Cup 2023 : India announce Asia Cup squad : KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer ,Jasprit Bumrah back, Tilak Varma earns maiden ODI call-up

Delhi : Rohit Sharma led Indian Team announced 17 member Asia Cup 2023 squad in a press conference in Delhi featuring skipper Rohit and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. The tournament will be held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan, starting from August 30.

With ODI World Cup in view in October, Asia Cup this year will be held in 50 overs format, and squad is probably made keeping in mind the core team which will be featuring there. KL Rahul & Shreyas Iyer, who were doubtful due to fitness issues and injury are back into the squad, both these experienced campaigners will add to the strength and depth of the Indian middle order.

Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah makes a comeback in ODI too, after being out for nearly 1 year due to stress fracture. Recently he made comeback in the international arena in T20I series against Ireland. His inclusion will be a key to India’s bowling lineup since he has the ability to take wickets with new Ball, and death overs. The young sensation Tilak Varma has earned his maiden ODI call-up following an incredible IPL and West Indies tour.

Indian Batting with the likes of veterans Rohit, Kohli, Gill followed by destructive powers of Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan shape a depth in the top and middle order. Apart from this, the All-rounders namely Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur add to the fire power in the lower middle order and ability to score runs in the death overs, as well as take crucial wickets with the ball in hand.

The bowling department with it’s Strong pace and spin attack can be a nightmare to the opponents, with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, accompanied by the all rounders.

Overall, the squad has a mixed balance of experience and youth and are strong contenders for this season of Asia Cup. The Tournament will start from August 30 till September 17.
