Mumbai: India’s series victory in Australia last year will forever be remembered as one of the greatest wins in Indian cricket history.

Ajinkya Rahane, who guided India to a humiliating defeat to an unforgettable series win in Australia in 2020-21, in the absence of skipper Virat Kohli, made some shocking revelations stating ‘someone else took the credit’ for decisions he took to resurrect India after the horrified 36 all out in the Adelaide Test.

” I know what I’ve done there. I don’t need to tell anyone. That’s not my nature to go and take credit. Yes, there were some things that I took the decisions on the field or in the dressing room but someone else took the credit for it. What was important for me was that we won the series. That was a historical series and for me, that was really special,” Rahane said in an episode of ‘Backstage With Boria.

Without taking any names Rahane targeted then head coach Ravi Shastri, who was widely acclaimed for the team’s performance and dominated the media space for being the architect of the brilliant comeback given that numerous players were injured and were out of the Test.

“After that, the reactions from people or those who took credit or what was said on the media, ‘I did this’ or ‘This was my decision’, or ‘This was my call’, it was for them to talk about. From my end, I knew what decisions I took on the field and what decisions I took on my instincts. Yes, we talked with the management too but I used to laugh about it, that is what I did on the field, I never talk much about myself or praise myself. But what I did there, I knew.” he added.

Rahane also added that he still has some cricket left in him, and he is also looking forward to playing the shortest formats of the game as well. The 33-year-old also said that he is now focused on giving his best for the Mumbai side in the Ranji trophy.

“I believe in myself. In South Africa, I was batting really well. I made some contributions. I accept that I am going through a bad phase. Everyone goes through phases like these. There were players who had gone through this before me. And, there will be players who will go through this phase after me as well. Everyone has to go through this phase and this is not permanent.” The 33-year-old added.

“I believe there is still cricket left in me. Not just Test cricket, the shorter formats also and I am really looking forward to that. Right now, I am just focussing on the Ranji Trophy and want to give my best for the Mumbai team.”

Rahane, further said that he is confident that he will be back on the Indian side in no time, Rahane concluded by stating that cricketers who have gone through bad phases in the past have also made grand comebacks.

“I am confident that I will be back (in the Indian team). I do believe in myself. This phase is not permanent and I am learning from it. Those who have gone through this phase, have made comebacks too.” he concluded.
