England’s tour of India 2020 postponed until next year

Mumbai: The BCCI on Friday (August 7) has announced that England’s white-ball tour of India has been postponed until early 2021. The Eoin Morgan-led were to arrive in India at September end for three ODIs and the same number of T20Is. But with the IPL scheduled to happen in UAE, the tour has been kept aside for a few months now.

It is understood that the white ball games will now be a part of England’s Test tour scheduled from late January to late March 2021. Five Tests are also scheduled to be played on that tour. There has been no clarity where the ODIs and T20Is will take place but it is possible that England may play India in UAE following the IPL. An ECB spokesperson said it’s too early to say anything.

“Now that we have clarity regarding the postponement of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, it enables us to work with other Boards to progress the vital task of optimising the international schedules in the challenging circumstances that we have all been having to address with the Covid-19 pandemic,” the ECB’s chief executive officer, Tom Harrison was quoted as saying to ESPNCrinfo.

“International cricket between India and England is a highlight of the cricketing calendar and we look forward to working with the BCCI to firm-up the schedules for these eagerly anticipated tours as soon as possible.”

“The BCCI and ECB are working closely to finalise the schedule as we move towards the resumption of cricket. The rescheduled tour is also being redesigned in a way to accommodate both red and white-ball format and will now be a comprehensive one,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said.
