Kolkata : Barbora Krejcikova defeated Jasmine Paolini in Wimbledon final (Singles Women) 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, to clinch her 2nd Grand Slam title.
Barbora achieved this feat after 28 years, having won her 1st title in 1998.
Barbora won 1st set quiet comfortably. She earned a double break to close out the set in double quick time. Paolini saved a couple of break points, but her opponent from the Czech Republic did not give her much breathing space.
In 2nd set, Paolini came back strong. Playing more aggressively, winning the set, she took match to the decider.
The 3rd set saw a close encounter between the two. However, Barbora earned the deciding break of serve at 4-3.
Paolini did save a couple of championship points to stay alive, but Barbora had the last laugh.
Barbora climbed up to Top 10 in WTA Rankings. She also became the 4th Czech player to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish in the Open Era after her one-time mentor Jana Novotna, Petra Kvitova and last year’s champion Marketa Vondrousova.
