Kolkata : Indian and Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw has reacted in social media with grief over his exclusion from Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 squad on December 17, 2024.
Stating his incredible List A stats of 3399 runs in 65 innings, with 55.7 average & 126 Strike Rate, he questioned what more he has to do. He has 10 centuries and 14 half centuries to his name in List A.
In his Instagram story, he wrote, “Tell me God, what more do I have to see, if 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I’m not good enough but I will keep my faith in you and hopefully people believe me in still, cause I will come back for sure. OM SAI RAM”.

Things are getting from bad to worse for Shaw. Besides being forgotten from international scenario he was dropped from Mumbai in Ranji Trophy 2024-25 first phase due to lack of fitness and discipline.
He then worked hard and got into Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 winning squad but could only manage 197 runs in 9 innings at an average of 21.88.
To make things worse, he also went unsold in IPL Mega Auction earlier this month, with 75 Lakhs base price.
Shaw’s former Delhi Capitals coach Pravin Amre also stated lack of discipline in him during his stint with the team.
“I was there in the management when we backed him, but I was also there in the decision-making group, which dropped him due to indiscipline…I hope he takes this IPL auction snub positively. It’s an eye-opener for him,” Amre had said after Shaw went unsold.
After winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Shreyas Iyer also gave his take on Shaw’s form, saying no one can ‘babysit’ anyone as all are thorough professionals.
“I think, personally, he is a God-gifted player. The amount of talent he possesses as an individual, no one else has it. That’s true. It’s just that he needs to improve his work ethic,” said Shreyas Iyer.
Iyer emphasised the importance of Shaw addressing his work ethic, suggesting it is the key to unlocking his full potential. He acknowledged Shaw’s abundant talent.
“And I have said it before in many interviews. He needs to get his work ethic right. If he does that, the sky is the limit for him. Can you force him to? I can’t force him. He has played so much cricket, and everyone has given him inputs. At the end of the day, it’s his job to go out there and figure things out for himself,” he concluded.
Shaw’s exclusion from Vijay Hazare Trophy, Ranji Trophy, IPL is a major drawback for his future and he will need to work hard to make a giant comeback. Another notable exclusion for Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad is Ajinkya Rahane despite being leading run scorer in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 and red hot form.
