Tokyo: Ace archer Harvinder Singh advanced into the semifinals of the men’s individual recurve event at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics on Friday. Singh had defeated Germany’s Maik Szarszewski 6-2 in the Yumenoshima Final Field in the quarterfinals.

The Indian got off to a strong start winning the first set hitting 8, 9, 8 to which the German responded with a dismal 8, 6, 7. Singh kept the momentum going in the second set, scoring two more points. Szarszewski fought back winning the third set 28-25.

Singh maintained his composure in the fourth set, clinching the set pretty handily to ensure a spot in the medal match. Earlier, he had upset Bato Tsydendorzhiev 6-5 in the Round of 16. Another Indian in the event, Vivek Chikara lost to Great Britain’s David Phillips 3-7 in the Round of 16.
