Tokyo Paralympics: Arvind Malik finishes 7th in men’s shot put F35 event

Tokyo: India’s Arvind Malik finished eighth in the men’s shot put F35 category final on Thursday at the Tokyo Paralympics. In his maiden first appearance at the Games, the 28-year-old threw 13.48m.

Khusniddin Norbekov of Uzbekistan won gold with a season-best performance of 16.13m. while Argentina’s Emanuel Urra took silver with 15.90m. China’s Fu Xinhan had to be satisfied with bronze (15.41m).

Athletes with coordination impairment (involuntary motions, uncoordinated movements, and/or muscle tension) due to cerebral palsy or brain injury compete in the F30 classifications at the Paralympics.

Malik had lost function of his left leg as a result of nerve damage caused by a ball hitting him in the head as a toddler.
