Abu Dhabi: Namibia registered victory in their first game of Super 12,Group 2 of the ongoing ICC World T20 sealing a 4 wicket victory over Scotland in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Chasing a mere, 110, Namibia had to dig deep as they lost wickets at crucial moments with middle order collapsing horribly after opener Criag Williams(23) gave them as brisk start.Gerhard Erasmas and David Wisse, the two pillars of the line up both went home cheaply with the skipper, after playing superbly in the preliminary group stages got dismissed on a single digit.
The scottish bowlers shower great resilience to stretch the game to the wire especially Michael Leask(2/12),Bradley Wheal(1/14) and Mark Watt(1/22).However, with the target being a diminutive one, Namibia got things over the line as JJ Smit playing a breezy 23 ball 32 to seal the deal off the first ball of the penultimate over hitting one for the maximum.
Earlier, Scotland scratched their way through to 109/8 after their batting order collapsed horribly. The first three wickets going down in the opening over itself with Namibian seamer Ruben Trumpelman sending Geoge Munsey, Calum Mcloed and Richie Berrington home for ducks. Apart from Michael Leask(44), Matthew Cross(19) and Chris Greaves(25), none were able to get into double digits. For Namibia Trumpelman(3/17) topped the bowling charts alongside Jan Frylinck(2/10).
