South African all rounder Chris Morris retires from all forms of cricket

Centurion: South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Tuesday, January 11. Morris stated that he will be taking up a ‘ coaching role’ with the Titans and  thanked everyone who has been a part of his career.

The 34-year-old has brought the curtains down on his 12-year-old long glorious career that started in 2009 with a first-class match. Morris last played for the Titans in their game against Boland in the four-day franchise series match at the Boland Park in Paarl.

Morris took to Instagram and wrote, “Today I announce my retirement from all forms of cricket! Thanks to all who have played a part in my journey whether it be big or small…it’s been a fun ride! Delighted to be taking up a coaching role at @titanscricket #lifebeginsnow.”

Morris made his international debut in 2012 with a T20I against New Zealand and went on to play ODI and Test cricket as well. In four Tests, 42 ODIs and 23 T20Is, Morris went on to pick up 12, 48 and 34 wickets respectively. He also scored three half-centuries at the highest level to show for his skills. Morris last played for South Africa in the 2019 World Cup match against Australia at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

The star all-rounder was also a prominent face in the Indian Premier League. He has represented teams like Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Rajasthan Royals and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Morris, who played for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021 became the highest paid cricketer in the history of IPL auctions when Rajasthan Royals picked him up for a whopping Rs 16.25 crore ahead of the 14th season in 2021.
