Mumbai: Legendary Sachin Tendulkar has come forward to help Ashraf Chaudhury, who used to repair bats under the staircase of Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Tendulkar has portrayed his kindly nature by helping Ashraf, who has been admitted to Savla hospital and is suffering from a financial crisis.

Ashraf was admitted to Savla hospital in Mumbai 12 days back due to diabetes and midzone pneumonia-related issues. The batmaker’s close friend Prashant Jethmalani, was quoted as saying to PTI on Tuesday (August 25) that Tendulkar has come forward to bear the financial expenses.

“Tendulkar came forward and has spoken to Ashraf Chacha. He has also helped him financially. A major chunk of the finances has been donated by the legendary batsman,” he said. Ashraf has fixed and repaired bats of some star cricketers which includes Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Australia’s Steve Smith, South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, West Indies’ Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard.

Since 1920, Ashraf is the owner of small shop M Ashraf Bros., opposite Metro Cinema in Mumbai. Back in 2016, Ashraf has donated a pack of 16 bats to the West Indies players without charging them a penny, when the Windies players had a clash with their board.
