New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced that Rohit Sharma will take over from Virat Kohli as the captain of India’s ODI team as well. Rohit was appointed as full-time T20I skipper after Kohli decided to step down from the role after India’s T20 World Cup campaign.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr. VC Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI & T20I teams going forward,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Rohit has also replaced Ajinkya Rahane, who has been struggling with his performance in the longest format of the game as the vice-captain of the Test team. Kohli will continue to lead the team in the longest format.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee also announced an 18-member squad for the 3-Test series against South Africa starting from December 26. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, spinner Axar Patel and young opener Shubman Gill have not made it to the squad due to various injuries and are currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, Hanuma Vihari has made a comeback in the main squad while Ishant Sharma has been able to retain his place despite poor form.
