Tokyo: India’s Praveen Kumar grabbed a silver in the men’s T64 high jump event with a new Asian record of 2.07m on Friday. Jonathan Broom-Edwards of Britain won gold with 2.10m, while Pole Maciej Lepiato had to settle for bronze with 2.04m.

Kumar first crossed the 1.83m mark before improving on with 1.88m. He then went on to clear the 1.93m and 1.97m hurdles too. Praveen’s first effort at clearing 2.01m was unsuccessful, but he succeeded on his second attempt. He then proceeded to leap 2.04m with his first attempt.

Following that, he cleared 2.07m after his first leap. After then, the bar was increased to 2.10m, which Praveen failed to cross on all three attempts. Broom-Edwards, on the other hand, cleared the mark in his third attempt to seal the victory.

“Before my second attempt (2.10m), there was a bit of pressure but before my third and final attempt, I didn’t take any pressure. I just told myself that I have to clear this,” Praveen said.`
