Kolkata : Indian and Bengal pacer Mohammed Shami is all set to comeback to competitive Cricket in Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh at Indore on November 13, 2024.
He wasn’t picked in Bengal’s match against Karnataka but was spotted in the stands watching the game.
Shami has not yet joined the team, but Bengal coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla confirmed he will arrive in Indore later today and is set to feature in the game. As a result, he’s included in the squad for facing Madhya Pradesh.
The paced also received the necessary clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Shami hasn’t featured in Indian Cricket since November 19, 2023 after playing ICC ODI WC 2023 final against Australia. He suffered an ankle injury during the tournament, where he picked 24 wickets and had a surgery in March 2024.
Recently, Shami had bowled extensively to India’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and appeared to be in good rhythm. Sporting a black sleeveless t-shirt, shorts, and with his left knee strapped, Shami bowled from around the wicket to the left-handed Nayar, consistently hitting the good length area and occasionally sending down bouncers.
Speaking at an event last month, Shami shared that he had returned to bowling at “100%” and was seeing positive results.
However, he wasn’t selected in India’s squad for Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Shami’s fitness will be monitored by BCCI and if he shows good fitness and results in Ranji Trophy clash against Madhya Pradesh or further, he might be selected in later part of Border Gavaskar Trophy squad.
