Madrid: Former Barcelona forward Luis Suarez claimed to be on the other side of the decision to bring Barcelona legend Xavi back to the club succeeding Ronald Koeman.
“As a soccer fan and what he has done as a player, I don’t think that today, tomorrow or the day after is the time to catch the team,” Suarez told SPORT.
A Lionel Messi-less Barcelona has been in shambles, registering to back to back 3-0 losses in the Champions League sitting at the bottom of the table. Their league campaign is not going well either. A persistent mismanagement from Head Coach Koeman is being said to be the reason along with a string of wrong decisions. Luis Suarez departing from the club to settle for compatriots Atlético Madrid was also included in the series of Koeman’s wrong doings.
Although Barcelona President Joan Laporta is seen to be asking the fans to hold their patience, he has been evidently stating of being prepared to wield the axe and reports in Spain state that Laporta and his board has started to sort out replacement process.
Xavi who has been one of Barcelona’s greatest wielding eight La Liga titles along with four Champions League forming the formidable Iniesta-Xavi duo ,has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Koeman, after his success with Al-sadd in Qatar. However, Suarez recognizes this as a bad decision and supporting his statement, the former Liverpool man added,
“He is intelligent and knows the difficulty of the club. He must wait for the moment. He has colleagues inside with whom he will have to make decisions and it will be difficult.”
Even being on the other side, Suarez believed that Xavi would thrive as a coach in the Catalan club adding: “I see him as a very qualified coach” and is backing him “to be as great as a coach as he was as a player.”
Luis Suarez will be featuring against his former club Barcelona on Saturday, October 2nd, when the Blaugranas visit Atlético Madrid at Wanda Metropolitano.
