ISL 2022-23; Semifinal, Leg 2: ATK Mohun Bagan beat Hyderabad FC in penalty shootout

Kolkata:  After an un-resulted first leg of Indian Super League semi-final 2022-23 at Hyderabad, ATK Mohun Bagan and Hyderabad FC met at Vivekanand Yuva Bharati Krirangan, Salt Lake Kolkata. However, the game went way too far than anticipated, with penalty shootout.

Vishal Kaith saved the day for ATK Mohun Bagan with two saves in the penalty shootout.

The match started with a thick cloud of smoke, but the sky was clear by 20 minutes of the game. ATK Mohun Bagan had a good start, but slowly Hyderabad FC gained possesion of rhe ball. While Glan Martins, Subhasis out shown today from the start, Kiyan Nassiri striggled to find a score.

In the starting minute of the game, Carl McHugh of ATK Mohun Bagan puts an elegant cross towards Kiyan Nassiri but the youngster fails to convert it. In the fifth minute, a cross from Nikhil Poojary finds Bartholomew Ogbeche. However,the Nigerian fails to receive the ball properly, instead the ball finds Borja Herrera, whose shot goes over the crossbar without disturbing ATK Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith.

Three consecutive attack from the host but none of them could break the deadlock. In the 18th minute, a brilliant cross from Subhasish Bose looks for Manvir Singh, who heads the ball into the hands of Gurmeet Singh. Three minutes later, a long ranger from Glan Martins goes wide apart the post. The very next moment, a long range from Manvir Singh hits the crossbar.

The first attempt from Hyderabad FC came in the 26th minute, with Halicharan Narzary winning the ball for Asish Rai. Narzary delivers a crisp ball to Mohammad Yasir, who shoots over the target. Kiyan Nassiri and Dimi Petratos kept having some good choices on the pitch and dictated the proceedings. Moments before the end of first-half, Pritam Kotal gets booked with a yellow card.

 

With the start of the second half, ATK Mohun Bagan coach Juan Fernando brought Liston Colaco replacing Kiyan Nassiri. Joel Chianese got involved in head tussle with Glan, minutes before he was booked with an yellow card. ATK Mohun Bagan made some brilliant impact with Hugo Boumus, Manvir Singh and Liston Colaco hitting long rangers and close shots from the corner.

Almost ten minutes after the hout mark, Borja Herrera and Halicharan Narzary made way for Joao Victor and Rohit Danu in Hyderabad FC. Subhasis Bose made a bad stamp on Yasir which gifting the vistors a set piece opportunity. However, the shot went above the bar. Fede Gallego comes in for Hugo Boumous.

In the last fifteen minutes, Manvir Singh sends a cross for Federico Gallego, but the Uruguayan fails to get hold of it. The return ball goes for Carl McHugh, however his shot falls straight into Gurmeet Singh’s palm. Nine minutes before the game time, Sahil Tavora pulls off a fierce challenge on Subhasish Bose and gets himself booked.

Both sides made some changes while Javier Siverio joins against Joel Chianese, Lalrinliana Hnamte enters the pitch for Glan Martins. Mohammad Yasir crossed into the ATK Mohun Bagan penalty box however, Javier Siverio’s header was easily collected by Vishal Kaith.

With a scoreline of 0-0, the game moved forward to extra time of 15 minutes of 2 halves. Hyderabad FC looked quite confident with short passes and more control of the game. Between this strong display, ATK Mohun Bagan managed to score a couple of long shots, though flying high above or wideaway from the box. Hyderabad FC defense stood strong to keep the hosts away from their territory.

The second half of Extra time started with a attacking ATK Mohun Bagan, trying every now and then to break the dreadlock. However, every counter attack was well chased by Hyderabad FC thus making it more of movement for Vishal Kaith. The scoreline remained the same after two extra time, added time and the whole of match.
