Durand Cup 2021: Delhi FC play out a highly contested 2-2 draw against Bengaluru FC

Kolkata: Delhi FC and Bengaluru FC battled out a dramatic 2-2 draw in a strong Group C match of the 130th edition of Durand Cup at the Mohun Bagan ground on Saturday.

Delhi FC’s Willis Deon Plaza (58th, 62nd) scored a brace, while Bengaluru FC’s Siva Sakthi N (27th) and Bidyashagar Singh (75th) scored two goals each.

The first half was a bit quieter, with both teams creating chances but failing to convert them on most instances until the 27th minute when Bengaluru FC’s Siva Shakti put the Blues ahead with a stunning shot at goal.

The second half, on the other hand, was the most interesting and significant part of the game. Delhi FC rallied and stunned the opposition, equalizing in the 58th minute with a spectacular header from their star player Willis Deon Plaza. Four minutes later, the Trinidad and Tobago international scored his second goal of the game.

Delhi FC appeared to be running away with the game, but Bidyashagar Singh of Bengaluru FC  had other ideas. In the last quarter, he collected a well-directed cross from Harmanpreet Singh, made no mistakes, and equalized.

Both teams gave it their all in the last minutes to take the lead, but the hard-fought encounter finished in a draw, with both teams gaining a point. And Willis Deon Plaza of Delhi FC was named Man of the Match.
