Goa: ATK Mohun Bagan defeated Bengaluru FC 4-3 on penalties after the score remained 2-2 after 120 minutes of play to win the Indian Super League 2022–23.

In the first goal of the game, Dimitri Petratos skillfully converted a penalty after Roy Krishna handled the ball within the danger zone.

ATKMB maintained their advantage until the final kick of the first half, when BFC was awarded a penalty kick, which Sunil Chhetri confidently converted to tie the score.

Both teams entered the second half looking to gain an advantage over the other after scoring one goal each.

But, it was Krishna, the Fijian international, who handed BFC their first-ever lead in the match when he smashed a header into the goal after a corner kick from the right that was assisted onto his position at the far end of the net.

With less than 10 minutes left in the game, ATKMB was given yet another penalty, depriving BFC of their chance to win the cup.

Then Petratos once more went up to take the vital penalty, and he smashed the ball into the net without making a mistake to force extra time.

Both teams had chances to win the game before extra time, however Chhetri’s acrobatic attempt missed the target as the veteran failed to convincingly grab the ball.

In the second period of extra time, Manvir Singh was given a clear opportunity to give ATKMB the victory as he was given a perfect opportunity to head the ball into the goal from close to the far post. The 27-year-old made a poor attempt, however, as the ball harmlessly missed the mark.

After 120 minutes of play, a penalty shootout was necessary because there was no difference between the teams.

Petratos, Kiyan Nasiri, Manvir Singh, and Liston Colaco of ATKMB scored from the penalty spot, while Bruno Ramiers and Pablo Perez of BFC missed their attempts.
