Mumbai: Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has showered huge praise on Shreyas Iyer for his journey.  He Said that as a captain he has been remarkable and stated that Kolkata Knight Riders’ future is bright under the leadership of the Indian cricketer.

Shreyas Iyer was roped in by KKR at the mega auction for a whopping 12.25 crores. Later he was appointed the captain of the KKR franchise just ahead of IPL 2022 and the youngster has impressed everyone with the way he has led the side so far.

“His captaincy moves are coming to the fore prominently in this season and we will talk more about it as the tournament progresses. He’s a players’ captain,” Irfan said in Star Sports.

So far in the first two games, Shreyas Iyer has led KKR brilliantly. He hit the winning shot against CSK in their opening campaign, before suffering a defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore. In both games, his captaincy impressed everyone but what came to the fore was the way he managed the bowling attack pretty well.

“He backs the players at every turn and which is a good sign of a leader. The future of Kolkata is bright under his supervision and we’ve seen glimpses of it in the first couple of games,” said Pathan.

Pathan concluded by saying that ever since Iyer  led Delhi Capitals in 2018. Pathan also believed that Ricky Ponting guidance to him at Delhi Capitals helped him grow as a captain pretty well. The former India all-rounder further reckoned that his leadership skills have gained more prominence in kkr now.

“Shreyas Iyer is a brilliant captain. Remember, he picked up (Delhi Capitals) captaincy midway through the season, like Rohit Sharma who was named Mumbai Indians’ captain halfway through the season in IPL 2013. For Delhi Capitals, Shreyas started well under the supervision of coach Ricky Ponting and he kept improving his decision-making skills in his first stint as captain,” Pathan concluded.
