Mumbai: Two-time World Cup winner and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor Gautam Gambhir believes it will be too early to talk about LSG youngster Ayush Badoni, who recently had an eventful outing against Gujarat Titans (GT) in his debut Indian Premier League (IPL) match.

Playing his first match in the cash-rich league, the explosive Delhi batter notched up his maiden half-century to help Lucknow bounce back against new entrants Gujarat in the clash of the IPL debutants. Badoni had earned all the attention for his batting heroics at the IPL 2022 opener at the Wankhede Stadium.

When asked about the new recruit of the Lucknow franchise, mentor Gambhir praised the Delhi youngster and said it is too early to expect anything big from the young right-handed batsman. The former kkr skipper also credited the Lucknow franchise for identifying Badoni’s talent.

“Too early to talk too much about him because one innings doesn’t make you a superstar,” Gambhir told Star Sports.

“Yes, he’s got loads of talent and that’s why he’s sitting in this dressing room. We did identify his talent. We’ve seen him for a long time as he comes from Delhi. The most important thing for him is to stay balanced and for us also to keep him balanced,” Gambhir added.

Earlier, young Badoni had also credited mentor Gambhir for advising him to play his natural game in the cash-rich league without worrying about the situation.

“Gautam bhaiya (brother) backed me a lot. He told me to play just my natural game. He told me you won’t get the one-odd match, but you will get a proper run. He also told me you do not need to play according to the situation, there are senior players to do that in the team, so you just play your natural game,” Badoni said in the post-match press conference.
