New Delhi: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing Council will take action to ensure that players are not excluded from the T20 league very last minute without any valid reason.

English cricketers like Jason Roy and Alex Hales opted out of IPL 2022 after being picked by Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively, citing bio-bubble fatigue as a reason after the auction. Both players were auctioned off at their base price. To avoid such a last-minute decision, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seems to be coming up with a new policy.

In the most recent IPL GC assembly, the BCCI is coming up with strict action against overseas stars who choose out of the IPL without a valid motive. According to the Cricbuzz website, some franchises have raised issues concerning the rising pattern of gamers pulling out having secured a small price on the public sale.

“The GC has a commitment towards the franchises who are the important stakeholders of the league. They bid for a player after a lot of planning. Their calculations go haywire if a player pulls out, that too for flimsy reasons,”  a GC member informed was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.

Reasons for injuries or playing an international match are generally considered justified by Cricket boards. But many players have been withdrawing from the IPL for days without any valid reason. Mitchell Starc did the same after being selected in RCB and KKR. The BCCI has stated in such situations they have been asked to resign by their respective board.

“There will not be a sweeping policy that everyone who has pulled out of the IPL will be prevented for a certain number of years. It will be on a case-by-case basis and some research will be done before action is initiated. What if the reason is genuine,” the source added.
