Abu Dhabi: A clinical bowling performance backed up by a scintillating batting display from Shubman Gill helped Kolkata Knight Riders beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets in and Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter here on Saturday.

Gill timed his way to a 62 ball unconquered 70 as KKR achieved the target of 143 runs with two overs to spare. The right hander was ably supported by Eoin Morgan who remained unbeaten on 42 from 29 balls.

It wasn’t a bright start for KKR at all chasing Sunrisers’ 142/4 as Sunil Narine went back for a duck. Nitish Rana knit an useful 37-run partnership with Gill before falling to T Natarajan. KKR captain Dinesh Karthik too followed him to the dug out with out opening his account. But then Morgan and Gill came together to ensure that they get their side over the line without any more casualties.

Earlier in the first innings, Hyderabad started off briskly with David Warner leading the way. His opening partner Johnny Bairstow (5) was picked up cheaply by Pat Cummins but then Manish Pandey played a useful knock alongside Warner. But the team really could not get going after Warner’s caught and bowled dismissal to Varun Chakravarthy. Pandey and Wriddhiman Saha struggled to cope with the slow nature of the surface and Hyderabad only managed to get to a below par total which wasn’t enough to challenge KKR’s batting depth.
